West Park Academy, Darlington Sports Hall & Glazed Link Corridor

West Park Academy, Darlington Sports Hall & Glazed Link Corridor

West Park Academy is a primary school located on the outskirts of Darlington, it was awarded academy status in July 2011. Harkin Associates were approached to provide proposals for a new multi-purpose sports hall within the school grounds. The resulting scheme would deliver a 160m2 sports hall along with boys & girls changing areas, disabled w.c & shower facilities & an office. A new glazed link corridor would provide covered access from the school. The external finishes & materials are designed to be as sympathetic to the existing school buildings as possible & external landscaping helps to successfully integrate the new sports hall in to its surroundings.

Roy Welsh, the retail boss who operates Market Cross Jewellers says the upgrade has been a roaring success, it has convinced us that to move forward we our business we need to concentrate on creating a more luxurious environment and shopping experience in as many of our stores as possible.

Kelham Island Residential Development

Kelham Island Residential Development

Kelham Island is one of Sheffield’s designated Quarters which was once part of the city’s oldest industrial districts. Warehouses, factories & workshops left empty by the demise of the steel industry are now being taken over by high quality residential developments, small businesses & artists. This key development is situated on a vacant site within the Kelham Island district & constitutes a mixture of residential & commercial units. In this sensitive conservation area, great care has been taken to conceive building forms which are relatable to the surrounding industrial landscape. Individual units come together to form traditional terraced streets along with 3 storey terraced blocks which form sawtooth rooflines characteristic of industrial structures close by. This scheme embodies Sheffield’s master plan for the region by offering a modern & sustainable urban community that recognizes its industrial heritage.

Applebridge Cottage Case Study

Applebridge Cottage Case Study

Harkin Associates were involved in the transformation of a collection of drab farm cottages into a stunning contemporary country home that takes full advantage of its rural location. This sympathetic remodel & extension project has provided the client with approximately 5,000ft2 of extended modern living facilities over three storeys, including open plan kitchen & living areas, an office, games room, snug & five bedrooms. All with high quality fixtures & fittings throughout. Internally, a hand-made timber staircase created by specialist joiners forms the centre piece of the main hallway & a large external balcony & picture windows provide uninterrupted views of the stunning scenery in this part of North Yorkshire. A detached triple garage was also constructed to compliment the style of the main dwelling & extensive landscaping, outside terraces & garden buildings form the full scope of the work.
