What Our Clients Say

A few kind words…

"I have worked with Harkin Associates on two projects within the school. Throughout both projects the team were consummate professionals. The whole process was easy, from the designs to the finished project. The team discussed all of the steps of the project, from initial quotes to agreeing the final touches. Their ability to explain each process in a ‘non-technical’ manner ensured I understood each stage of the work. There was always excellent and open communication throughout the projects. I would recommend Harkin Associates without reservation and indeed, have them back for any future projects within the school."

"I have been head teacher at St John’s since 1999 and during this time I have worked with many different architects/project designers which apart from being a stressful experience never fulfilled the original brief. Since meeting Harkin, they have renewed my faith in the whole process – listening carefully to the brief and then coming up with imaginative designs which have totally transformed our 1970s building into a modern, attractive environment which has transformed teaching and learning. The quality of their work speaks for itself and many visitors have commented on our lovely building. Having had years of over-priced, poor quality work from a number of different firms, our Governing Body are thrilled with their services."

"Middlesbrough Football Clubs aspirations to re-join the Premier League were realised in May 2016 when a draw against Brighton Hove Albion in the last game of the season earned the Club automatic promotion. The seven intervening years between the time Boro were last in the top tier had seen many new requirements imposed on Clubs in regard to the broadcasting and media facilities. Furthermore, these Stadium Criteria requirements had to be implemented before the first game of the new season in August 2016.

In order to meet the stringent standards and very tight timescale, MFC appointed a local architectural design company, Harkin Associates, to provide initial conceptual design and then detailed implementation design of the various elements of the required stadium modifications. Harkin were able to contribute immediately by assisting the Club in a decision to relocate the camera gantry from the West to the East Stand and providing the evidence and professional input to convince the Premier League that sunlight on the camera lenses would not be an issue.

The Harkin team were also able to develop viable plans to meet the other criteria involving new media facilities, studios and general upgrades to the stadium as well as working closely with a range of contractors. Thanks to the efforts of Harkin and the other contractors employed by the Club, and despite the exceptionally tight timescale, the program was achieved and the stadium was proudly reopened on time on the 13th August less than 100 days after the final whistle was blown on May 7th. The Premier League and the main broadcasters, Sky and Premier League Productions, as well as the legions of media personnel, have all complimented the Club on the new facilities which are setting a new benchmark for other Premier League Clubs to follow."

Kelham Island Residential Development
Case Studies

Kelham Island Residential Development

Kelham Island is one of Sheffield’s designated Quarters which was once part of the city’s oldest industrial districts. Warehouses, factories & workshops left empty by the demise of the steel industry are now being taken over by high quality residential developments, small businesses & artists. This key development is situated on a vacant site within the Kelham Island district & constitutes a mixture of residential & commercial units. In this sensitive conservation area, great care has been taken to conceive building forms which are relatable to the surrounding industrial landscape. Individual units come together to form traditional terraced streets along with 3 storey terraced blocks which form sawtooth rooflines characteristic of industrial structures close by. This scheme embodies Sheffield’s master plan for the region by offering a modern & sustainable urban community that recognizes its industrial heritage.
